Christopher Wool had a wonderful show at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2014. That show will always stay with me because it really presented the importance of removal. Around this time i started seeing art differently; a more negotiable journey, as opposed to a strict institution. I love his block letter paintings, but the pieces that wont let me go were the large scale wiping/erasing pieces. Through his work i was able to see breath, waves, and each natural process that instead of fixated on a goal, moves between here and not - being fully present in both. These last couple of days i have been sketching on tissue paper and removing pieces. Tissue paper is so difficult to draw on and so easy to tear.
